Airborne radiation detection relies on a system that can carry sensitive detectors on an aircraft, provide real-time readings, and feed data back to responders for mapping and decision-making. The Air Monitoring System is built for exactly that purpose, designed to be mounted on airborne platforms and to monitor ambient radiation as surveys sweep large areas. It typically includes gamma (and sometimes neutron) detectors, data processing, and real-time transmission to command centers, enabling plume tracking and source localization from the air.

LIDAR, while excellent for mapping and terrain profiling, does not measure radiation, so it doesn’t fulfill the core need of detecting radiological hazards from an aircraft. The other assets listed serve different functions and aren’t standard airborne radiation-detection platforms, so they don’t fit as well as the Air Monitoring System for this task.
